I really don't care who is right about the whole Global Warming thing but I would say that extreme variations in climate indicate that we are having an impact on the climate. If we push things one way the Earth is going to push back in another. Does it really matter what we call it? The Polar ice cap is almost ice free that is a seriouis climate change. Large chunks of Glaciers are crashing into the ocean. You know the Earth can respond with Volcano's that will cloud out the sun thus lowering the Earth's temperature. Too me it just seems we should tred a little lighter for our kids sake.
You know the Great Lakes are not freezing anymore thus the lake effect snows become shorter with less days of below freezing weather but when it finally gets cold enough the moisture from the unfrozen lakes makes the snow much more intense.
I am in freakin Florida so I will just send you some Sunshine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bingo. Are we permanently damaging the planet? Of course not. Nothing we are doing now can't be repaired over a few millenia after we are gone. Things that can't be repaired however are people's lives. And I also would like to know that my children and grandchildren will not be forced to deal with man-made catastrophes. Is Al Gore over the top? Sure. Is his basic point valid? I think so. While not permanently damaging the planet, we are doing some severe damage to our biosphere. So, for the sake of self preservation alone, perhaps we should think about changing some stuff we are doing. Again, for my kids and their kids, and so on. Pretty friggin' selfish to sit back and do nothing saying "well, don't affect me none".

OK, here's where the right wing conservative faction comes out and rags on me for daring to agree with some of Gore's points. Fine by me. Not saying I agree with everything he has to say, just that he does make some valid points.

1st of all the planet has been changing for hundeds of millions of years & we've been keeping track of it since about 1890 i think. i live in so cal. and the weather man cant even predict a little of rain in a day or 2. LET ALONE A HUNDRED YRS FROM NOW!! so..................okay............say it is warming. we could park every car ,shut down every power plant ,factory , etc.......i would'nt change the global temp one bit! what...........the ave. temp. went up a half a degree the past 100 yrs.?..........that means the planet is on fire? What about china? their exempt from this kyoto treaty.[which would be nothing but a shakedown for the U.S. had we signed!] they plan on building 2300 coal power plants over the next 30 or 40 yrs. tons of refrigeration factorys[not the ozone freindly ones we have. they use shit we banned decades ago.]as well as unparalled industrialization[would make america's industrial revolution of the early 1900's look like caveman play].......what if a volcano or 2 or 3 or 4 goes off?...........you can't fight this! don't get me wrong , i dont mean just fuck it!.........i like clean air and water too.........but............global warming?...............maybe.............man made.........probably not!........anyway what do i know ,i,ve only been around over 40 yrs. PEACE

Hey DarkStar 1964 it seems to me that what you are saying does not need to be contrary to the points that I and SomeDarkHallow are making.
You are right about much of the world including China using technology that is much worse for the environment, perhaps there is another way to achieve the goals besides the Kyoto protocals.
I know that American free enterprise groups have been in China trying to help them improve the safety and productivity of Chinese factories, (this could of course backfire) but these are not the left wing or anarchists working with China they are U.S. fortune five hundred corporations.
